Country of Origin: The American Eskimo Dog breed was formerly called a German Spitz or an "American Eskimo Spitz" and was bred as a companion dog in the United States of america, within the twentieith century. It is often called a "Eskie" is most likely derived from the German Spitz, the Finnish Spitz, the Pomeranian, the Keeshond, and possibly the Samoyed.

Character: Good with people and other pets. Intelligent, inquisitive and playful.

Temperment: A very social breed that is great with the family and good with other people and pets.

Coat: Coat has two layers, a short and dense undecoat and an outer coat of long and straight hair. Coat is also thicker and longer around chest and neck. Colors other than white or biscuit cream are unacceptable.

Care Needs regular brushing to prevent matting, with more care to be taken during twice yearly sheddings.

Colour: Pure white is the preferred color, although white with biscuit cream is permissible, however any other color is a disqualification.
