Those dogs are not suitable pets, so cannot be placed in a home environment. This is why I am not crazy about the extreme' dog sports.Now clunilg for color or disqualification? Totally unacceptable. If the dog is healthy in every other way, sell it on a spay/neuter contract and place it in a loving pet home. I once had a Gordon Setter who was considered a mis-mark because his tan bled as he got older, spreading till his whole face was tan. A dog show acquaintance told me he should have been bucketed when he was born. (To bucket' a puppy is the practice of putting it in a bucket of warm water at birth, supposedly a humane' way of euth) I loved this dog dearly; he was obviously not a show dog, but he was obedience titled and a licensed therapy dog that visited nursing homes several times a month and made countless people happy. Should he have died because his markings weren't quite right Needeless to say, that comment ehnded our friendship.I myself was faced with clunilg for health reasons whrn I bred my only litter of Gordon puppies. One of the females had a split trachea and heart murmur. Rather than chance expensive surgery that was no guarantee, I opted for euthanasia AT THE VET. It was heartbreaking, and one of the reasons I never bred again.Culling has it's place, when done in the right way and for the right reasons. |
