The Collie is part of the Herding group. The Collie is a dog with Excellent problem solving abilities. The trainability of the Collie is Above Average. It was breed to be good for Family Pet, Herding, Watch Dog The Collie lifestyle is Active, but can adapt to indoor or outdoor living

The Collie is susceptible to eye problems, hip dysplasia and epilepsy. It is important that when contacting a Collie breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.

Please don't purchase your Collie from a petstore which commonly are known to support Collie puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Collie health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Collie breed standard.

Country of Origin: Great Britain - evolved from same stock as other Scottish herding dogs, believed to be descendants of dogs accompanying Roman invaders 50 BC. Brought to England from Scotland by Queen Victoria and seen most predominantly in the county of Northumberland. It is thought that the name Collie derives from the black faced sheep they drove which were called

Character: The Collie is mild-mannered, gentle, and eager to work. Occasionally it can be a bit stubborn.

Temperment: This breed is good with children, and if properly socialized it gets along well with other household pets.

Coat: Can be either rough or smooth. Acceptable colors are sable and white, tricolor, blue merle, or white. If white, markings are preferred.

Care The coat of the smooth variety needs to be brushed periodically. The rough variety needs to brushed or combed every other day, more when shedding.

Colour: Sable/white, tricolor; blue merle, white

Comments: Especially useful in heavy cover, for slower walking hunter, or where game is plentiful. Largest Spaniel breed. 1996 Westminster Best in Show. Loyal and gentle. .
