Whippets are prone to having upset stomachs and skin problems. It is important that when contacting a Whippet breeder that you express health concern issues and ask the breeder what they are doing in order to help mimimize them.

Please don't purchase your Whippet from a petstore which commonly are known to support Whippet puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Whippet health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Whippet breed standard.

Country of Origin: Great Britain - a member of the Greyhound family. Descended from hounds brought to Britain during the roman invasion. A straight-away sprinter, he can cover 200 yards in 12 seconds. There is controversy over whether the breed derives from Italian Greyhound-Terrier ancestry or miniaturized all Greyhound. Developed in Britain initially as a coursing hound first on rabbit, then eventually on rtificial lures. Brought by Lancashire textile workers to New England, where they were raced successfully.

Character: The Whippet is affectionate, peaceful, intelligent, and great with children.

Temperment: Whippets are good with children but do not take kindly to strangers. They cannot suppress the urge to chase anything that moves quickly. They are tolerant of other dogs, enjoy children, and will leave the family cat alone.

Coat: Fine and dense. There are many possible colors, but most often seen are beige, blue, roan, black, black and white, or white with streaked or yellow patches.

Care Occasional brushing to remove dead hairs should be sufficient. It is necessary to give the dog something to chew to avoid tartar buildup. Its claws must be kept trimmed short.

Colour: Any color

Comments: They make quiet, sturdy, and affectionate pets and obedience dogs, delighting in the company of people and other dogs. Healthy, clean housedogs. Easily house broken. Active puppies, mellow adults. Very catlike, not suited for kennel environment. .
